FY 2026 Prerelease and Post Incarceration Services (PAPIS) Grant Program | Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services
The Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) is accepting applications for the Prerelease and Post Incarceration Services (PAPIS) Grant Program. DCJS administers general funds designated to support Prerelease and Post Incarceration Services (PAPIS) programs to provide direct services to incarcerated individuals nearing release into the community, or previously incarcerated individuals living in the community.

Inmate Records is responsible for maintaining an inmate's information to include charges Court status Court dates and bond information as well as calculating the release dates for inmates sentenced by Courts in Prince William County. If the inmate is sentenced to a term of confinement from one day to 12 months the Detention Center will calculate the release date.

My LO completed their program on the 10th of August.. this is new when we look him up . we were told a few weeks after his completition he would be free .... does this mean they will not be released until January of 2026 ?

The ACLU of Virginia claims the state’s corrections department is “over-detaining a significant number of people” as a result of earned sentence credits being improperly applied to individuals’ sentences. The civil rights group — which in a December 17th, 2025, letter asked for the Virginia Department of Corrections to “conform with the law” — has sued VADOC over the issue four times since 2022.
